Celebrating 50 years!
1966, now that was a year. Let us jog your memories…
It was the year the BBC began broadcasting in colour. Tom Jones’ The Green, Green Grass of Home was the UK’s best-selling single. Barclays launched Barclaycard, the first British credit card. The Sound of Music won an Oscar for Best Picture. England won the World Cup!
It was also the year Dennis Edwards started working at Covent Garden Flower market at the tender age of 17. He began a one-year trial in the market in 1966 and never left!
This year he celebrates his 50th anniversary. Rumour has it the only market trader with a longer working record than Dennis is the Old Barrow!
Over the years Dennis has done every job in the market from porter to MD. He’s met politicians, royalty and celebrities – Sebastian Coe, Boris Johnson, Joan Collins, Princess Anne and Glenda Jackson to name a few. In all his time in the market no day has been the same. Dennis says, ‘Thanks to my team, market colleagues and customers for keeping things interesting. Here’s to the next 50 years!“
